2014 FARA MIAMI 500 CHAMPION, ANSA MOTORSPORTS, RETURNS TO THE FLORIDA CLASSIC WITH 5 CONTENDERS
The Thanksgiving weekend is the date of one of the most recognized club racing events in the United States, the FARA Miami 500. The FARA event will start on Saturday, November 28 with qualifying for the 500 race. The four-hour endurance classic is set for Sunday, November 29 at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
Every year this event is a fantastic opportunity for ANSA Motorsports to compete at the highest level of club racing with some of its most active customers. The 2014 edition was a very special one for ANSA Motorsports since their red Ferrari 458 GT racecar was able to cross the finish line first despite a good handful of prototypes entered in the race. ANSA Motorsports drivers Raul Costa, and 2002 Indy 500 pole man, Bruno Junqueira, won the South Florida classic and became the 2014 FARA Miami 500 Driver Champions.
This weekend, ANSA Motorsports will return to the FARA Miami 500 to defend its crown. ANSA will enter five winning team contenders in the race. The first team is the No. 73 2015 KTM X-Bow GT4 (MP-2A class) which will be co-driven by Dore Alexander Chaponick Jr. and Patrick Dussault. The KTM X-Bow won its first North American race with ANSA Motorsports a month ago at Homestead, with Roberto Moreno behind the wheel. The same weekend, ANSA drivers Dore Alexander Chaponick Jr., Alain Nadal and Alex Bolanos finished 6th overall and second in class, co-driving the same REITER Engineering KTM X-Bow GT4 in the FARA Race of Champions. This weekend Chaponick Jr. and Dussault will have a good chance to win their MP-2A class.
The second entry of the five teams of drivers entered by ANSA Motorsports is the No. 331 AUDI R8 LMS to be co-driven by long-time ANSA customer, John Herlihy and by ANSA “protégé” Frenchman Nico Jamin, who just won the 2015 USF2000 Championship. Jamin and Herlihy raced the FARA Miami 500 last year and they will be one of the top contenders to win the MP-1A class.
ANSA Motorsports will have another Audi R8 LMS entry in the FARA Miami 500. The No. 221 car will be co-driven by Chris Fountas and by very experienced and successful Audi driver, Guy Cosmo. A stand out among North American sports car drivers, Cosmo boasts extensive experience in both Prototype and GT racing.
The fourth entry is the No. 67 Porsche 997-RSR to be co-driven by Eric Johnson and Bill Lester. In 1999, Lester became the first African-American to run a NASCAR race. From 2008 through 2010, he competed in the Daytona Prototype class in the Rolex Series. In 2011, Lester moved to the GT category and made sports car history by becoming the first African-American driver to win in any Grand-Am division. Ironically, Lester won at the Virginia International Raceway, located close to the home of NASCAR’s only African-American winner, Wendell Scott.
The fifth entry is the No. 121 Ferrari 458 GT3 to be driven by Neil Fairman and a driver to be named soon. Fairman will be a true contender on Sunday.
The Homestead Miami Speedway doors will open at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 29 and the final practice session is set for 9:15 a.m. At noon fans are invited to meet the ANSA Motorsports drivers of the FARA Miami 500 on the starting grid right before the start of the 500 scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
