FABULOUS FIRST PWC WIN FOR ANSA MOTORSPORTS AND DRIVER LORENZO TREFETHEN!

Pirelli World Challenge rookie Lorenzo Trefethen earned his first GT Cup class victory last Sunday in the No. 13 ANSA Motorsports Trefethen Family Vineyards/BRM Chronographes/750 Group Porsche GT3 Cup car. That victory also marked the first-ever PWC win for ANSA Motorsports, still in its first Pirelli World Challenge season. IMG_8944 The day before, Trefethen had scored a third place podium finish in race 1 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP), Canada. The ANSA Motorsports crew, led by Bobby Mouzayck, was very pleased by this good result, which secured Trefethen third position in the driver championship before race 2. Trefethen started race 2 from row 2 with the fourth fastest time. He took a great standing start and was able to run with the leaders right away. Leader Colin Thompson began to feel pressure from second-place Sloan Urry. On lap 22 as the duo approached turn 9, Urry made a move inside of Thompson. The two went into turn 9, side-by-side and as they exited, Urry lost the rear-end grip and began to spin. He and Thompson both spun as a result. Thompson quickly recovered to stay in front. However Urry took more time to recover and fell back to fourth. That enabled Trefethen and Phil Fogg Jr. to move into second and third, with their eyes on the leader. Fogg would make his way around Trefethen in turn 5C on lap 22. The battle for the lead continued. By lap 26, both Fogg and Trefethen made their way past championship leader Thompson. IMG_8949 At the end of the race, Trefethen felt great and was ready to give everything he had to push Fogg, all the way to the last turn, in case he would make a mistake. The last lap turned into high drama, as Fogg spun in turn 8, out of the lead. That propelled Trefethen into the lead and the victory - his first professional win and the first for ANSA Motorsports in Pirelli World Challenge. “To finish first, you must first finish,” Trefethen said after the race. “This is a real thrill. This is my first time up here, north of the border at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. I have to thank the guys at ANSA Motorsports for giving me a really predictable car. I was able to stay right there and take advantage of everything that was happening in front of me. I just kind of backed off, stayed there, kept it clean and was able to bring it home. I want to dedicate this win to my good friend, Dan Fredinburg. Dan died climbing Mt. Everest the day of the terrible Nepal earthquake. I know he’d be proud of what was accomplished here today.” ANSA Motorsports team owner Alain Nadal and his crew were really happy by this performance, after the hard work that the ANSA crew deployed, since the first day of the season to stay competitive. “I am so excited for Lorenzo and the team,” said ANSA Motorsports General Manager Emmanuel Lupe. “I was not in Canada myself, but I had all the confidence in the crew and the driver to do a great job. When I convinced Lorenzo over last winter to join our new Pirelli World Challenge program, I told him that he will have plenty of opportunities to shine during the season. After nine races, he already has scored four podium finishes and is running second in the championship. Alain Nadal and I are impressed, since it is his first professional season. He is gaining confidence race after race, and we are excited about the next five events.” IMG_8881 After nine rounds in the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge, Trefethen is now ranked second in the point standings with (795 points) in the GT-Cup, between leader Colin Thompson (1078 pts) and Sloan Urry (781 pts). Watch the CTMP races 1 and 2 on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, May 24, 5 p.m. EDT. The next event for the GT-Cup competitors is Road America on June 26-28.
