BRETT SANDBERG JOINS ANSA MOTORSPORTS’ KTM TEAM FOR 2016 PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE GTS CHAMPIONSHIP
ANSA Motorsports’ team owner, Alain Nadal, is pleased to announce that Brett Sandberg will drive the No. 13 ANSA Motorsports REITER Engineering KTM X-Bow GT4 all season in the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GTS Championship. ANSA Motorsports and Sandberg have great expectations for the 2016 championship and hope to take the all-new KTM X-Bow GT4 to the GTS winner’s circle soon.
Sandberg, 26, started his racing career at age 18. He competed in prominent racing series, including the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA, the IMSA CTSCC and the Pirelli World Challenge, where he made his professional debut in 2010. In 2013, Sandberg finished second in the Pirelli World Challenge TC Driver Championship. Sandberg’s strong sports-car experience behind the wheel of GT machines includes participation in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Twelve Hours of Sebring, Six Hours of the Glen and Petit le Mans. Last season, Sandberg raced in four rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge GT-Cup class, as well as in the IMSA CTSCC and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo.
Sandberg, a New Jersey native, previously tested the ANSA Motorsports KTM X-Bow and is eager to start racing in round 1 of the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GTS Championship.
"I am extremely excited to be driving for ANSA Motorsports this season, as this great team campaigns the all-new KTM X-Bow,” Sandberg said. “It's an honor to be chosen to drive this new platform for the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GTS season and contend for the championship title.”
ANSA Motorsports collected three championships in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA Gold Cup class (2012-2014) and the IMSA Mazda Prototype Lites L-2 class (2012). 2015 marked ANSA Motorsports’ first season in the Pirelli World Challenge, and they finished third in the GT-Cup class with driver Lorenzo Trefethen.
“I am happy that Brett Sandberg is joining us for the 2016 season,” Nadal said. “Brett is a very good racer, and our team will be there to give him the support he needs to win races as a serious championship contender.”
Last summer, ANSA Motorsports was the first U.S. racing team to become a North American REITER Engineering KTM dealer. Since September 2015, the ANSA Motorsports KTM X-Bow scored three podium finishes, including a class win at the iconic, four-hour FARA Miami 500. ANSA Motorsports is still looking to race two or three KTM X-Bow GT4s in the series, but the team is hoping that the series will do a good job with the balance of performance (BOP) to keep the KTM X-Bow GT4 competitive against the more powerful race cars entered in the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GTS Championship.
Testing for the season opener at COTA is scheduled for Thursday, March 3, followed by practice, qualifying and feature races set for Friday, March 4, through Sunday, March 6.
