MULTIPLE PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE RACE WINNER, HUGH PLUMB, JOINS ANSA MOTORSPORTS KTM X-BOW TEAM FOR LIME ROCK
One of the most talented and experienced American sportscar and World-Challenge racers, Hugh Plumb, joins ANSA Motorsports for this week’s Pirelli World Challenge GTS championship rounds 9 and 10 at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut.
Plumb, from Unionville, Pennsylvania, is a former Lime Rock race winner. He will drive the No. 12 ANSA Motorsports Reiter Engineering KTM X-Bow GT4, alongside teammate, Brett Sandberg.
“We are so happy to welcome Hugh Plumb to our team,” ANSA Motorsports co-owner, Alain Nadal, said. “Hugh is a friend of ANSA Motorsports, and we are looking for him to bring his incredible GT racing experience and talent to our team this week at Lime Rock.”
Plumb returns to Lime Rock with great expectations and desire.
“I am so excited to join ANSA Motorsports and drive their No. 12 Reiter Engineering KTM X-Bow GT4 this weekend at Lime Rock,” Plumb said. “Lime Rock has always been kind of a home track, being that’s where my racing career started. I have had some really good success there, so it would be nice to return to the very competitive Pirelli World Challenge GTS championship. I watched and heard great things about the Reiter Engineering KTM X-Bow GT4, and I am eager to start practicing on Friday morning. ANSA Motorsports is a championship-caliber team that won several GT titles in the last years, and I hope I can help the team and my teammate, Brett Sandberg, who is one of the top 2016 GTS championship contenders, get two top results on Friday and Saturday.”
Plumb competed in the Pirelli World Challenge Series between 1998 and 2001. He became "Rookie of the Year" in the Touring Class in 1998. He finished third in the 1999 driver championship, with one win and seven podium finishes, and finished fourth in the 2000 driver championship, with two wins and five podium finishes. In his four Pirelli World Challenge seasons, he scored four wins, 15 podium finishes and 30 top-ten finishes and helped collect two manufacturers’ championships.
Plumb has been actively competing in three major North American racing series, including the WTSCC, the ICTSCC and the Pirelli World Challenge. Between 2006 and 2016, Plumb accumulated a great amount of wins and podiums in the ICTSCC and the WTSCC, where he has nine Rolex 24 At Daytona starts. In 2015, Plumb had a very successful season in the ICTSCC, when he co-drove with his brother, Matt, and finished second in the GS driver championship, scoring three wins, including a victory at the Daytona 200, plus two podium finishes. Plumb started the 2016 IMSA CTSCC season in GS and finished fifth at the Daytona 200 season opener and third at Sebring.
The Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Lime Rock Presented by Bentley will be held on Friday, May 27, and Saturday, May 28.
