THE KTM X-BOW GT4 ELIGIBLE FOR SPRINT X CHAMPIONSHIP!
Coming off the most exciting racing campaign in the 26-year history of the Pirelli World Challenge, WC Vision today announced a variety of new elements to its 2016 series including the confirmed schedule, the alliance with SRO and live television showings.
At the annual “State of the Series” presentation at the SEMA Show, Pirelli World Challenge officials expounded on the previously released 2016 schedule with dates at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Tooele, Utah on August 26-28 and the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., on Oct. 7-9.
For the 2016 season: GT/GTA and GT Cup races will begin with rolling starts, and the plan to integrate more GT4 homologated platforms like the Maserati GranTurismo and the KTM X-BOW in the GTS class.
The series also confirmed the new Sprint X series. This six-round series will be contested at three racetracks (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Utah and Laguna Seca). Each race will be a one-hour sprint race with a mandatory pit stop with a driver change. Each car will be shared by a pro and an amateur racer. GT and GTS class will be eligible including the new KTM X-Bow GT4 race car.
Last March, Pirelli World Challenge officials announced the alliance with the SRO Motorsports Group and the highly-competitive Blancpain GT Series featuring GT3-based sports cars and the series’ double header event set for the 2016 PWC season opener at Circuit of the Americas.
The alliance is today confirmed with the announcement of the first GT3-only endurance race in North America with a six-hour race at the Circuit of the Americas scheduled for March 5, 2016. The KTM X-Bow is eligible to participate in this six-hour endurance race in the GT4 class.
In the address at the SEMA Show today, Pirelli World Challenge officials also confirmed the television package with CBS Sports Network that will include a live race broadcast for the 2016 season, as well as the expanded relationship with Motor Trend OnDemand TV.
As in 2015, CBS Sports Network will telecast the remainder of the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge events on a taped-delay basis with 120-, 90- and 60-minute presentations. Details on the CBS Sports Network viewing schedule will be announcement in the near future.
